Jane Stryker: Painter
My rural roots that began in southern Ontario, have guided me to Huron County where I photograph and paint close-to-my-heart aspects of farm life -i.e.milkweed ,cats, skunk cabbage and turkeys. I began to paint in my 20's, and I am self taught. Earth tones are my favoured colours - they affirm my closeness to the land, and are well suited to most agricultural subjects.
Wood as a medium, caught my interest in 1989. I carve decorative motifs and name signs, using hand chisels and blocks of pine or cedar. This tactile process also reinforces my rooted-ness to the Earth.
Recent retirement from working as a PSW, now allows more time for me to savour the natural beauty of Huron County, and to indulge in the pleasures of wood and paint .
