Green Goderich welcomes the opportunity to partner with the Goderich Co-op Art Gallery to feature the Art of Betty Hendriks. Betty enjoys being in nature while finding creative uses for driftwood that is found on our local beaches. We hope the display will encourage people to learn more about Green Goderich and we hope they will join us in building a more sustainable and environmentally friendly community.

Green Goderich is a grassroots environmental action group that inspires and unites people to protect and support our ecosystems. We love our natural resources and wish to protect them through action to eliminate plastic pollution and learn about the causes and effects of climate change. We build community through education, action, and advocacy.

We exist to create a more informed public about the need to eliminate non-essential single-use plastic in our homes, schools and businesses.

We advocate for sustainable environmental practices based on up to date scientific information related to the environment and climate change.

Our group researches and identifies environmental concerns as they may arise in our community. We hope to assist others  in taking action to solve these environmental challenges.

Betty Hendriks is retired and has been making Art and Crafts out of driftwood for several years. The driftwood is usually picked up at the inlet beach which always has an abundance of driftwood. This is a great hobby for her which allows for the pleasure of spending time on the beach as well as being able to help others.

Betty uses recycled wood bought from the ReStore for the backings of the maple leaf and heart shaped wreaths. All of the wood used in making the trees comes from the beach including the base and tree trunk.

Every year Betty donates all of the money that she raises to charity. In 2020 a total of $4800 was donated to the following charities - The Canadian Cancer Society, the two Goderich Food Banks and the Children's Aid Society. Most of the items are sold to people who have heard about the driftwood pieces from Betty’s friends and neighbours.
