John Crawford: Painter
My father used to bring home handfuls of paper from the office. This stuff had typewritten print on one side and was destined for the landfill, but still okay for doodling. I spent a fair amount of time doing just that. Back then my subject matter was airplanes and hotrods I drew for my buddies.
Later on, my brother and I convinced my mother to paper our bedroom in plain white. Three full walls of blank canvas. On went the tempera paint, in a psychedelic display from floor to ceiling. I’m sure my parents thought it looked a lot better with the door shut.
Following high school I attended art school at Georgian College where we learned a little bit of everything in year one. Before year two happened, I embarked on a career far removed from the world of fine art.
After thirty-six years of that I felt the urge to create again. So, here I am trying to remember some of what I learned way back when and to explore new mediums and subject matter for myself.
